The Royal Portrush Golf Club started in Antrim County, Ireland, in 1888 and took its present name in 1895, under the patronage of the Prince of Wales. Harry Colt redesigned this course, first designed by Old Tom Morris. Royal Portrush hosted the first championship game in Ireland in 1895 and is the only club outside of Great Britain to host the British Open.
